Skiing

Skiing on the sunny side of the Alps - and without waiting, surrounded by the unforgettable panorama of Lienz and Dolomites.

The East Tyrol Ski Pass offers skiers eight different possibilities for skiing throughout OSTTIROL:

  • Ski area Thurntaler Sillian (4 km away)
    At an altitude of 2,407 m, you can enjoy beautiful 22 km of slopes, where the two slopes to Sillian and Außervillgraten represent the non plus ultra for every skier and snowboarder. 1 gondola, 2 chair lifts and 3 drag lifts ensure skiing pleasure at its best. Of course the ski area Thurntaler also has children learn and play oppurtunities to offer  (baby lift, children´s ski kindergarten, children´s ski school). www.hochpustertal-ski.at
  • Ski area Obertilliach Golzentipp (about 17 km away)
  • Lienzer mountain railways : Ski area Zettersfeld and Hochstein in Lienz (about 25km away) 
  • Ski Area Matrei Goldried (about 50 km away)

  • Ski Area Kals (about 55 km) away
  • Mölltaler glacier cable car (about 70 km away)
  • Ski Area Ankogel (about 70 km away)

After the border to South Tyrol you can find:

  • Ski area Drei Zinnen (about 10km away) in Vierschach
    5 connected mounatins and 115 km of slopes are waiting for you.
    The panoramic gondola of Sexten and the cable cars of Verschach allow easy access into the ski area Helm Drei Zinnen. The range extends from 4 chair lifts and 3 ski lifts from over 20km of perfectly groomed slopes.   • The large ski area Kronplatz with his next start in Olang (about 34km away)

Cross-country skiing

Cross-country skiing enthusiasts have 140 km of trails at their feet. The Hochpustertal with the trails through the valley Villgratental and the Tyrolean Gailtal belongs to the world's largest cross-country network Dolomiti Nordicski. One of the most beautiful cross-country trails in Tyrol is the Grenzlandloipe through the Tyrolean Gailtal / Lesachtal (approx. 4 km from Strassen) and the cross-country trail through the wild and romantic Villgratental (approx. 3 km from Strassen).
The trails in the South Tyrolean Alta Pusteria are also just a short distance away and can be reached in about 20 minutes.

The cross-country ski trail Grenzlandloipe is no longer a secret within the insider circles! If the right snow conditions already are available within the early winter the cross-country and biathlon teams in Obertilliach start to prepare for the upcoming season.  Besides from the snow attracts, it’s mainly the trail guide that brings many long-running enthusiasts in our winter wonderland.
The cross-country and biathlon center is also located in Obertilliach.

The Hochpustertal, the Villgratertal and Gailtal/Lesachtal belong to the most beautiful ski areas of the ski areas of the south Alps. Please contact us in time and we will be able to organize your ski tour with qualified leadership, with local professional who know the area, weather and snow conditions.

Snowshoe walking

Walk solitary tracks through the quite countryside, find the way yourself or achieve the goal within a small group, all that is possible with two tires on your hiking boots, a good level of fitness and the enjoyment of something unusual and adventurous. Snowshoeing becomes more and more popular, no wonder as it takes only a bit of equipment and knowledge. Who likes to walk will also like snowshoeing. Today in times of high tech aluminium wheels have replaced the old tires from branches what means, that you can climb with light packing. Moreover, this form of winter fun is for little individuals to experience beyond the individual oneness with nature, that's an unforgettable experience and a very special kind of adventure.

Toboggan

A special attraction in Hochpustertal, are the natural toboggan routes. Some of them are very close to our apartments.
